The zoo was great. The animals were all very close and the exhibits well made. The giraffes were very close - and they were a big hit. The children's play area had a tunnel she liked to walk through and a sliding hill that was fun to climb. Evelyn has a book where she flaps her arms like a penguin - she liked the penguins too but I am the one flapping my arms in the picture...Here are some pictures of the day. We would definitely go back to Santa Barbara - it was only 1.5 hours away.

Car Accident
Well - a pseudo car accident. We had just arrived at the Santa Barbara zoo, and we decided to throw away a very dirty diaper instead of leaving it in the car. Brian was feeling skillful and decided to throw it (overhand) at a trash can. Well - it ricocheted and the diaper opened up and smeared all over the hood of a shiny lexus. I heard him calling me back - and I knew what had happened. I watched Brian use several baby wipes to clean up baby poop off of the Lexus. It was fun to watch. I could laugh at this - but I had just spilt a diet coke on the floor of a dressing room (we walked downtown Santa Barbara and found some sales). So I refrained.

13 Months
Evelyn is 13 months old - here are some shots from the park today. You may notice she has a scrape on her nose and chin - she has had a few falls walking this week - but they are healing nicely. Evelyn has gained a pound (19lbs 7oz) and grown .5" (29.5) in the last month. She is a great walker now and her vocabulary is growing. It is cool here today - it feels great! We'll spend Thanksgiving with some other families here - we will miss everyone at home to be sure. We are planning to go to Santa Barbara on Friday to the zoo. It will be a family outing - one of our first chances to explore California since moving here.

With Thanksgiving
Evelyn drank milk from a sippy cup today. She was tricked initially - I gave her the sippy cup in a dimly lit room - she could not tell that it was not water until she drank. After that, it seemed to be okay...I am very thankful! We are also one week post pacifier at bedtime and naptimes. A lot of transition, and she is doing great! That being said, she still likes to be in charge - here she is in charge of the remote:
